![]() Grand Cherokees are prone to having some common mechanical problems, and many of you have probably serviced complaints of noisy differentials. In 2005, a 3.7L V6 engine replaced the earlier I6 powerplants, and 5.7 V8 Hemis were made available under the hood, as well as a more powerful 4.7L PowerTech. The second-generation of the Grand Cherokees (1999-2004), still had the 4.0L I6, but the V8 Magnum engine was replaced with a 4.7L PowerTech V8. Over the years, the vehicle saw some changes to both the body and the V8 engine. In fact, the Grand Cherokee 5.2L V8 made both the Car and Driver magazine’s “Ten Best” list, as well as Motor Trend magazine’s “Truck of the Year” for 1993. If fuel tank was not previously drained, ensure fuel tank cap is installed to prevent spilling of any fuel. Position fuel tank straps away from fuel tank.ĬAUTION:To prevent fuel loss through hoses, keep left side of fuel tank higher than right side.ĭO NOT allow hose openings to drop lower than top of fuel tank. Remove 4 fuel hose shield mounting bolts and remove fuel hose shield.ĭisconnect filler and vent hoses from upper filler neck.ĭisconnect fuel supply line from fuel supply tube near front of fuel tank.ĭisconnect EVAP canister vent line near front of fuel tank.ĭisconnect fuel pump module electrical connector. Remove fuel tank skid plate (if equipped). Release fuel pressure from fuel system, if not previously done. I would suggest if you can get a helper to hold the tank with youįuel tank may be drained by lowering fuel tank or if fuel pump is operating, by pumping fuel from fuel tank using a scan tool
